RAPAPORT... The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) will launch its  job program on May 23 as part of a wider strategic plan. In 2012, while AWDC developed its growth strategy, one primary issue that required attention was the need to maintain and reinforce employment opportunities in Antwerp.

Ari Epstein, the CEO of AWDC, explained, “We noticed that people are not really looking for jobs in a specific diamond company, but they are rather searching for a job in the industry in general. With over 1,800 registered diamond companies in Antwerp, it is very difficult to find an overview of all relevant vacancies in our industry.”

AWDC's new ''Antwerp Diamond Jobs'' initiative is expected to ease the burden of finding a job in Antwerp and help diamond companies with their search to find suitable candidates. Epstein added that all diamond companies will be able to post vacancies online, free of charge.

Job candidates will have free access to vacancies along with the ability to upload and edit their personal profile. Epstein expects the job tool will host about 150 openings per year for positions such as diamond polisher, diamond grader,  administrative personnel, marketing expert, IT and other business positions.

Municipal official Mark Van Peel said, “Matching supply and demand can be very difficult and challenging in certain industries. Considering the economic importance of the Antwerp diamond industry cannot be underestimated, I am delighted AWDC launches the jobsite ‘Antwerp Diamond Jobs.' Initiatives like this will help to solve the labor market paradox.”
