RAPAPORT... Warren Buffett appointed Karen Goracke as the CEO and president of Borsheims Fine Jewelry and Gifts, the company announced on its Facebook page.

Goracke's appointment follows the planned departure of the company's longtime CEO, Susan Jacques, who is leaving the jeweler after 31 years to head the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Goracke will begin her new role on December 31, 2013.

Goracke joined Borsheims in 1988 and served as a watch buyer for the jeweler until she left in 1998 to tend to family matters. She returned in 2004 and served as the company's ladies jewelry buyer, according to Omaha.com.

The company wrote on its Facebook page, "We are so glad she decided to rejoin her Borsheims family and under her expertise and wise guidance we know she will lead us into an exciting future."

Borsheims operates one store in Omaha, Nebraska and plans to open its second location in a rebuilt outlet mall along Interstate 80 near Gretna later this year.
