RAPAPORT... True North Gems Inc. appointed Raymond Simpson and James R.W. Pounds, both of whom are executives of Dominion Diamond Corporation, to the company's advisory board.

"We are delighted that Mr. Simpson and Mr. Pounds have agreed to join the company's advisory board," said Nicholas Houghton, the president of True North Gems. "These distinguished individuals bring years of mine-producer marketing and business experience to complement our current team. They will not only be a valuable resource for True North as we transition toward final permits and production at the Aappaluttoq ruby deposit in Greenland, but for the future path of the company."

Simpson is currently an executive vice president of Dominion Diamond and has more than 20 years of experience in the diamond industry. In 2003,  Simpson joined the company, which was named Aber Resources at that time, to oversee its strategic expansion into retailing. Simpson ultimately assumed the role of chief operating officer when the company acquired retailer Harry Winston.

Simpson began his career with De Beers, where he held a variety of roles, ranging from mine resource evaluator to supply and demand forecaster for consumer marketing. As head of business development for De Beers in London,  Simpson was instrumental in establishing a retail joint venture between De Beers and LVMH, known as De Beers Diamond Jewellers. Simpson joined LVMH as director of operations for the new venture, overseeing the development of the company's production, logistics and information systems.

Pounds is currently the president of Dominion Diamond Marketing Corporation. He joined the company  in 2002 as the managing director of the rough diamond sales in Belgium. In 2005, Pounds became vice president of sales based in Toronto. Prior to joining Dominion Diamond, he was a project manager for De Beers and managing director at Diamdel Israel.
