Inaugural Dubai Global Gem & Jewellery Fair Showcase Exclusive Collections

Press Release: Brilliant new designs and impressive creations from the most successful Gulf and Indian jewelry brands enticed visitors at the inaugural Dubai Global Gem & Jewellery Fair, which concludes on March 22 at Atlantis, The Palm. The event hosts three sections -- gold jewelry, studded jewelry and diamonds and gemstones --  and 130 exhibitors are showcasing exclusive and stunning creations.
 
Also on display are rare and unique jewelry pieces and collector’s items. Visitors to the Dhamani booth at the exhibition, for example, can experience a preview of ''The Falcon'' (pictured) made of gold, silver, platinum and diamonds. According to Amit Dhamani, the managing director of Dhamani Jewels, “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind piece that is a tribute to the great nation of the UAE and we conceptualized The Falcon as it is very much a part of UAE’s heritage and culture. Created by our in-house team of designers, The Falcon required great precision and hard work as we had to capture a perfect image of the flying bird ready to land.“

The special edition Falcon is available for $273,000 (AED 1 million).

The Global Gem & Jewellery Fair  brought retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and exporters from the global jewelry industry together under one exhibit space. For Kashi Jewellers, from India, this show is an ideal platform to showcase their exclusive diamond jewelry and bridal designs to potential partners.

According to Shreynash Kapoor, the vice president of Kashi Jewellers, “At the moment, 10 percent of our export is to the Middle East, especially the UAE and Kuwait. With Dubai’s phenomenal growth and the recent achievement of winning the rights to host the Expo 2020, we see Dubai as a strong hub for our trade in the region.”

Also exploring the potential of the Middle East market is Anup Bohra, a jewelry designer and the managing director of Jewels Emporium, which  is more than 170 years old.

Bohra said, “This is the first time we are participating in a jewelry show in the Middle East, though I have held private shows in Dubai before. I believe jewelry is all about imagination; in my collections I have captured the myriad images of nature. I have been designing ever since I can remember. I am an artist and I express my inspirations through jewelry.”

The designs at Jewels Emporium showcase many timeless pieces that represent the modern era of unconventional designs.

The Global Gem & Jewellery Fair  is organized by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), Dubai’s and the region’s global gateway for commodity trade and enterprise, and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India.

According to Gautam Sashittal, the CEO of the DMCC, “Even after the first show day, the event has already been rated as highly successful by buyers and sellers and we are honored to have worked with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council for the inaugural edition. At DMCC, we are proactive in identifying the needs of the industry and facilitating trade. Events like this offer businesses a platform to not only showcase their latest innovations in design and products but also to engage with global players and identify greater business opportunities.”

Pankaj Parekh, the vice chair of the GJEPC,  said, “India’s central role as the sourcing center for diamonds and precious stone jewelry is renowned worldwide. For years, traders and visitors to India have enjoyed the craftsmanship, quality, design and cost efficiency – now it’s time we return the gesture and bring the source to Dubai -- the most promising destination for the gemstone and jewelry trade in recent times. GJEPC is pleased to collaborate with DMCC and we look forward to further strengthening international trading relations here at the GGJF 2014.”

The Fair is an ideal platform for international buyers and sellers as they seek to trade top-quality gems and couture jewelry, where visitors from across the globe, including the Gulf, Egypt, Lebanon, Brazil, Bangladesh, Singapore, Eastern Europe, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Pakistan and Malaysia, are taking part.

The UAE is a global hub for the gold bullion and jewelry trade, with  gold jewelry consumption estimated at $2.5 billion, making it one the top five in the world alongside China, India, the U.S. and Russia. The UAE alone accounts for 40 percent of India’s gem and jewelry exports. Home to thousands of the world’s renowned brands and products; Dubai has quickly emerged as a cosmopolitan metropolis  offering the ideal platform for the prestigious GGJF 2014.
