RAPAPORT... Auction house Tiancheng International will hold its spring sale of jewelry and jadeite on June 8 in Hong Kong, featuring a "no reserve" section of 70 lots and included in 360 lots of Chinese and Western jewels that are expected to achieve more than $40 million (HKD 300 million).
The jadeite section encompasses top old-mine jadeite, designer jadeite and a series of jadeite cabochons. Tiancheng International will also present other jade varieties, such as white jade ornaments, pendants and bangles, as well as some red carnelian treasures, which is gaining popularity in Mainland China.
Stewart Young, the director of Tiancheng International’s jewelry department, said, "The spring is a nourishing season that gives rise to unlimited possibilities in nature, the spirit of which closely aligns with Tiancheng International’s motto. With youthfulness and innovation as our determining motivation, we aim to explore new frontiers in the Asian auction market, presenting to our valued collectors a rich variety of finest jewels. Seeing this interesting linkage, we decidedly use ‘Springtime Blossom’ as our auction’s theme, in the hope of celebrating the blooming array of precious jewels. This spring, we have amassed not only the usually sough-after items, but also a series of ‘rising stars’ in the market."
One of the many highlights from the upcoming sale is a five-strand natural saltwater pearl and diamond necklace, featuring 539 round pearls measuring between 12.55 millimeters to 4 millimeters with a presale estimate of $1.03 million to $1.54 million. Tiancheng International also presents a 39.24-carat natural, untreated Pamir spinel and diamond ring with a presale estimate of $450,000 to $580,000.
Top jadeite includes a natural jadeite leaf, ruby and yellow diamond and diamond pendant, with a pair of matching pendent earrings (pictured above), together are priced to sell between $1.9 million and $2.56 million. The leaf motif was carved with precious old-mine glassy jadeite that radiates an imperial gr een color, according to the auction house.
A range of jadeite cabochon items at the sale is led by a natural jadeite and diamond demi-parure, exhibiting full-bodied translucency and greeness of unparalleled quality and it is priced at $2.45 million to $3 million.
Additionally, the sale includes a 15.07-carat, natural, unheated ruby and diamond ring. The center stone is flanked by rubies and white diamonds, weighing 4.28 carats and 2.52 carats respectively, and it has a presale estimate of $1.4 million to $1.9 million.
The top sapphire at the sale is a 30.91-carat, natural unheated Burmese sapphire and diamond ring, pictured to the left, and it is offered with a presale estimate of $900,000 to $1.1 million.
