Botswana Minister of Minerals to Speak at Rapaport Breakfast

Rapaport to Highlight 'The Last 18 Inches'

PRESS RELEASE, May 21, 2014, New York…The honorable Onkokame Kitso Mokaila, Botswana's Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources will address the international jewelry trade at the annual Rapaport Breakfast held at the JCK Las Vegas Jewelry Show on Sunday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the South Seas Ballroom, Mandalay Bay Hotel.

The minister (pictured) will provide a brief presentation outlining Botswana’s strategic role and aspirations for the diamond and jewelry industry.  minister mokaila Botswana is the world’s leading diamond mining country with annual production of 20.5 million carats valued at $3.6 billion. A brief presentation will also be made by Vipul Shah, the Chairman of India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. India is the world’s largest diamond manufacturer with over 500,000 cutters and $20.5 billion of polished diamond exports.

Martin Rapaport’s annual “State of the Diamond Industry” address at the breakfast will highlight “The Last 18 Inches,” emphasizing the vital role played by retail jewelers who sell diamonds across their 18-inch showcase to their customers. His talk will include a strategic analysis of the challenges and opportunities confronting jewelers who face a rapidly changing consumer demographic. He will also address what must be done to maintain the “diamond dream” that is fundamental to diamond demand.
