RAPAPORT... Firestone Diamonds began excavating at its Liqhobong diamond mine in Lesotho, in preparation for the development and commissioning of the main treatment plant. The company expects construction to span two years, with production anticipated to come online in the first half of 2016.

Stuart Brown, the CEO of Firestone, noted that the company has committed 73 percent of the expenditure required for the development and construction of the main treatment plant and related infrastructure.

To date, the decommissioning and removal of the existing pilot plant is 30 percent complete. Firestone also needs to widen and reroute the site access road, build  residue slimes retaining walls and other engineering support.

The company signed contracts for engineering, procurement, construction and management. Additionally, the overhead power line and main substation mobilization has begun, with the first mining fleet already installed at the site. Firestone stressed that all major equipment deliveries are aligned to the company's current schedule.
