ALROSA Names 2015-2017 Contract Holders

RAPAPORT... ALROSA announced its list of 47 long term contract diamond buyers for the 2015 to 2017 contract period. Among the 47 companies, 10 are joining ALROSA’s contract sales for the first time after proving to be consistent clients at past ALROSA tender and spot sales.

By volume, ALROSA is the world’s largest diamond producer and sells 70 percent of its rough diamonds through contracts, similar in nature to the sightholder system maintained by its main competitor De Beers.

ALROSA’s long term contracts guarantee a preplanned monthly supply of goods in a specific volume and assortment, as well as an option to purchase extra goods at regularly scheduled monthly sales. Polished diamond manufacturers with large operations typically sign long term contract agreements to secure supplies and provide a hedge against price volatility in the diamond market.
