RAPAPORT... Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), a Surat-based diamond manufacturer, reported that it exported more than 348,000 carats of diamonds in 2014. The company reported that it did $1.2 billion (INR 75 billion) worth of business in the past three years, prompting the Indian government to award it the status of  “premier trading house.”

The award is the highest recognition awarded to any export business, SRK stated.

Rahul Dholakia, SRK’s managing director, said the certification will simplify management of the company’s import and export transactions and enable more convenient goods clearance at customs. He added that the company’s position in India’s gem and jewelry sector is being enhanced by the government’s "Make in India" campaign.

SRK has rough supply agreements with De Beers, ALROSA and Dominion Diamond Corporation, while its Surat factory has the capacity to process more than 720,000 carats of rough diamonds a year.
