Belgium's June Polished Exports +2%, Rough Imports -18%

RAPAPORT... Belgium's polished diamond exports grew 2 percent year on year to $1.386 billion in June, according to the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. By volume, polished exports were flat at 557,665 carats.

Polished imports declined 7 percent to $1.399 billion, leaving net exports with a deficit of $13.4 million – compared with a deficit of $145.7 million one year ago.

Rough diamond imports in June slumped 18 percent to $1.066 billion, while rough exports slid 14 percent to $1.142 billion. As a result, net rough imports more than tripled to $74.7 million from a year ago.

Belgium's net diamond account, representing the difference between net exports and imports, grew to $62.3 million in June from a deficit of $122.3 million a year ago.

Polished exports during the first six months of 2015 fell 4 percent to $7.296 billion. Polished imports dropped 4 percent to $7.135 billion. As a result, net polished exports declined 4 percent to $161.2 million.

Rough imports declined 19 percent to $6.353 billion during the first half. Rough exports slid 15 percent to $6.395 billion, leaving net imports with a deficit of $41.9 million compared with a deficit of $282.6 million a year ago.
The net diamond account for Belgium plummeted 55 percent to $203.1 million during the first six months of the year.
