RAPAPORT... The CEO of the Gemological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) James Riley resigned as CEO last week following months of rumors and contention between the membership and organization's board.
Riley has been on leave since March this year, according to Professional Jeweller, which first reported Riley's resignation. He had served as CEO of Gem-A since April 2012 and association members, in conversations with Rapaport News, credited Riley with drastically reducing the professional organization's operating deficit.
Gem-A is a registered U.K. charity which promotes the study of gemology through training gemologists and maintaining libraries and collections of gem materials.
Riley's resignation comes ahead of Gem-A's annual general members meeting. The meeting was originally scheduled for June 24 but was postponed by the board, which cited the need to resolve undisclosed internal matters.
