Press Release: The U.K. Assay Office in Birmingham moved into its new, specialized headquarter building on Moreton Street from its historic workplace on Birmingham’s Newhall Street.

The new facility,  which is almost 6,000 square meters, includes  three floors, including a mezzanine, and is within reach of many local customers and has easy access to the local Ring Road and motorways. Funding for the project was partly provided by a European Regional Fund Development project grant of $2.3 million (GBP 1.6 million) in addition to financial incentives provided by the Birmingham Enterprise Zone. Together, these grants enabled the Assay Office to pursue plans for the move, despite adverse economic conditions.

The organization's new state-of-the-art building in Birmingham’s thriving Jewellery Quarter will facilitate operational flexibility and speed in taking advantage of new opportunities. The Assay Office's  flexible floor plan means that departments within the office can be easily expanded and new equipment installed with minimum hassle. The new building provided better working conditions for staff and improved security measures to protect employees, customers and stock.

“The new location for the Assay Office Birmingham is a significant benefit to us, as a wonderful, modern and inspiring space that is truly fit for purpose," said Stella Layton, the CEO and Assay Master. “We’re looking forward to the opportunities for new business, service development and continuous improvement that this state-of-the-art facility brings to the Assay Office Birmingham team as well as to existing and future customers too."

The new Assay Office location accommodates the organizations' four pre-existing operational divisions – Hallmarking, AnchorCert Analytical, AnchorCert Gem Lab and SafeGuard Valuations. In addition, the Assay Office has invested in a new facility for use by the local Birmingham and Jewellery Quarter Community and industry as a whole. Training rooms, conference rooms and a foyer area will all serve to make the location a venue well-suited for training, conferences, meetings and other events.
