RAPAPORT... The founder and namesake of jewelry chain Michael Hill International will retire following the company’s annual shareholders meeting on November 4, to be replaced as chairman by his daughter, Emma Hill, according to a company announcement on Friday.

The younger Hill began working for the chain as a teenager and currently serves as deputy chairman of the company, the company said in a press release. She is also credited with establishing the company’s Canadian subsidiary Michael Hill Canada in 2002, serving as its general managed until 2007.

Michael Hill will remain on the company’s board as a non-executive director and will retain his stake as majority owner.

“Emma has learnt jewelry retailing from the ground up, has worked across the breadth of the business and across our international marketplaces,” the elder Hill said. He added that Emma had the expertise to help lead the company through its next period of growth.

The company said that it currently operated 300 stores across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S.
