RAPAPORT... India’s Nirav Modi brand is set to open its first U.S. store on Madison Avenue in New York, according to a company announcement. The opening will feature the showing of a $1.65 million diamond set in the store window at the corner of 64th Street and Madison Avenue.

The set, Maharani Diamond Necklace and Earrings, is a composition of five graduated rows of diamonds, weighing over 230 carats and set in 18K white gold. The white diamond drops are crafted in the ancient Taveez cut, found in heirloom jewels of Indian royalty, according to the company. The diamond assortment took more than two years to source.

Modi, a third-generation diamantaire and the chairman and managing director of Firestar Diamond, began working in the diamond industry when he was 19 years old, eventually evolving into his role in curating and crafting fine jewelry. Modi’s pieces are regularly featured in major global auctions, including Sotheby’s and Christie’s. Forbes magazine recently listed the billionaire as the 63rd richest man in India.
