RAPAPORT... Christie’s will auction a diamond that commemorated the Allied victory over the Germans in World War II as part of its Magnificent Jewels tender in New York. Estimates of jewelry up for auction range from $2,000 to over $4 million.

The sale will be held December 10, the company said in a statement. Auction highlights, along with informative videos, buying tips, and Christie’s specialists’ Holiday Gift Suggestions, are available for browsing online.

The central attraction of the auction is the diamond named ‘Victory,’ a 31.34-carat and D-color gem with a rectangular cut, which Christie’s estimates suggest will fetch $4 million to $5 million. Last offered at Christie’s in 1984, this precious stone is part of the collection of Florence J. Gould, the daughter-in-law of the 19th century railroad magnate Jay Gould.

“The auction features more than 500 lots, including signed pieces from Boucheron, Cartier and more,” Christie's said. “Prominent private collections comprise the most important jewels offered this season, with jewelry from the estate of New York philanthropist and socialite Carroll Petrie crowning the evening session.”

The ‘Petrie’ diamond ring – valued at $2 million to $3 million – is a 24.34-carat D-color gem designed by Harry Winston and belongs to the estate of socialite Carroll Petrie. A set of ear clips, which Christie’s claim are the largest pair of Harry Winston diamond clusters to appear at auction, is expected to fetch $800,000 to $1.2 million.

Other gems up for bidding include a rectangular-cut, 103.66-carat diamond pendant necklace estimated to be valued at $3.9 million to $4.5 million.

The auctioneer will also hold an online sale between December 11 and 21, offering contemporary jewelry ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
