RAPAPORT... Yoram Dvash has been elected president of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) replacing Shmuel Schnitzer at the helm of the bourse for the next two years.

Dvash, owner of Y. Dvash Diamonds, won 1,080 votes compared to Arnon Yuval’s 761, the bourse said in a statement December 17. Some 1,886 members of the exchange took part in the election.

Y. Dvash Diamonds has been listed as a leading exporter by the Ministry of Economy in each of the past five years, the IDE noted.

Dvash, a first-generation diamantaire, launched the manufacturing and trading business in 1991. He started out in the production of small, square and princess-cut diamonds and gradually moved into cutting larger stones, square-shaped and rounds, in sizes up to five carats. The company manufactures its diamonds exclusively in Israel and markets its production abroad, including through satellite offices in major trading hubs.

He first joined the IDE's board of directors in 2013 and currently serves as its treasurer.

Schnitzer concludes his time as IDE president having previously served between 1998 and 2004 and again since 2013.
