RAPAPORT... Dallas-based The Diamond Doctor and Southwest Diamond
Cutters have joined forces to open a “state-of-the-art” cutting facility.
The Diamond Doctor, a
jewelry wholesaler and retailer, and Southwest Diamond Cutters, a firm owned by
a fifth-generation master diamond cutter, will launch the facility in Farmers
Branch housing 14 diamond cutters and support staff. Employees are slated to
start there in mid-2016, according to a statement March 14.
“This new venture will
allow us to manage the diamond cutting process, minimizing third-party costs,”
Blank said. “Ultimately, the consumer will benefit by being able to buy
high-quality, lower-priced products.”
Cutters at the new site
will produce polished diamonds from rough cutting as well as from older diamonds
that need refurbishing and recut to meet modern styles, the statement said.
Once cut, diamonds will be certified independently and sold through The Diamond
Doctor retail store in Dallas and through Diamond Doctor owner David Blank’s
wholesale diamond business, which sells loose stones to the jewelry trade.
Southwest Diamond Cutters
was founded in 1993 by current owner Ashley van Creveld and is “recognized as
one of the top diamond cutters in the nation,” according to Blank.
Blank opened his wholesale
diamond company in 2002 and launched the retail business in 2003 to sell
diamonds at wholesale prices to individuals.
