RAPAPORT... The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) last week elected its new board, which will appoint the industry body's president and vice-presidents later this week.

Vimal Lakhani of Kiran Exports and Nishit Parikh of Diarough were elected unopposed in category 1.

In the two contested categories, Amratlal Chatankumar Shah of Simplex and Rajiv Kothari of Diamstones were selected from the category 2 vote, while Samir Mehta of Snehdiam and Jacques Weisz of Weisz Diamonds Belgium were re-elected for category 3.

The newly elected members will replace Kaushik Mehta, Ramesh Patel, Santosh Kumar Agarwal (Kedia) and Shailesh Javeri.

The elections took place on June 14 and 15. Board members will serve for four years as part of a rotation scheme, implying half of the board changes every two years to ensure continuation. The newly elected and re-elected members will be confirmed by the AWDC’s standing committee over the next few days. The board will then appoint the AWDC president and vice-presidents at its next meeting on June 23.
