RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Jewelry Career Fair attracted 600 people in New York last week, including high-profile industry figures, GIA students and recruiters.

Job seekers had the opportunity to meet 42 companies looking to fill hundreds of positions and synch up with 24 career coaches. JA New York sponsored the event, which was held at the Javits Center in Manhattan July 25 and marked the 25th anniversary of the fair.

Speakers and panelists included Rahul Kadakia, a GIA graduate and the international head of jewelry at Christie’s; Yancy Weinrich, senior vice-president of Reed Jewelry Group; and Steven Lagos, the founder and chief creative director of jewelry brand LAGOS (pictured).

Martin Rapaport, chairman of the Rapaport Group, also spoke, giving advice to job seekers in the jewelry business.
