RAPAPORT...
De Beers and Mountain Province started a formal ramp-up of diamond production at the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada, with commercial operations on track to come on stream in the first quarter of 2017.

The process plant at the mine in the Northwest Territories has been commissioned and ore is being fed to it.

Gahcho Kué is the largest new diamond mine under construction anywhere in the world, De Beers said. It is expected to produce an average of 4.5 million carats per year over its anticipated life of 13 years. De Beers holds a 51-percent stake and Mountain Province owns the rest.

“Gahcho Kué will not only strengthen De Beers in Canada, but ensure Canada remains the third leading diamond producer, by value, in the world,” said Kim Truter, chief executive officer of De Beers Canada. “We are excited to see this project move into the production phase.”
