RAPAPORT... Rockwell Diamonds said its chief executive officer James Campbell has resigned as the company continues to review its operations. He will be replaced by Tjaart Willemse, a former De Beers operations manager who will continue to assess Rockwell’s management structures and operating plans.

A strategic review in August found the recently acquired Remhoogte mine has been below plan, while construction of the new plant at Wouterspan is behind schedule and costing more than planned. “The board determined that further intervention on operations and plant completion was necessary while new opportunities are being assessed,” Rockwell reported.

Two other board members also tendered their resignation, with Stephen Dietrich citing personal health reasons and Rick Menell set to leave because of an already demanding schedule. They will be replaced by Richard Mhlontlo, previously Rockwell’s human resource and industrial relations manager, who will represent Rockwell’s Black Economic Empowerment partner on the board.

Campbell’s resignation will take effect in November. He will continue to serve as a director at the company.
