RAPAPORT... The World Diamond Council (WDC) appointed Marie-Chantal Kaninda as executive director, effective March 1.

Kaninda (pictured) will replace Patricia Syvrud, who is stepping down February 28, the industry body said Monday. Syvrud had been in the role since October 2014, when she joined as its first executive director.

Kaninda has more than 20 years’ industry experience at companies including De Beers, Rio Tinto and Anglo Gold Ashanti. A resident of the Democratic Republic of Congo, she has been chair of the nation’s private-sector anti-corruption initiative since 2012. At the WDC, she will be in overall leadership of the organization, developing relationships with key stakeholders and coordinating the representation of the WDC at the Kimberley Process.
