Russia’s government has appointed Sergey Ivanov as president of ALROSA for a three-year term, according to an official statement on Monday.

Ivanov is the son of a former Kremlin-administration head and currently serves as senior vice president of Sberbank, having previously headed insurer SOGAZ. He will replace Andrey Zharkov, who has been ALROSA’s president since 2015 and is set to leave just over a year before his contract’s May 2018 end date.

The rough-diamond market is not currently stable enough, but ALROSA is in good financial shape, Ivanov said in a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, a transcript of which was posted on the government website.

“I want to wish you success in this difficult work,” Medvedev said, according to a translation of the transcript.
