RAPAPORT... Australia-based jeweler Michael Hill has appointed Phil Taylor as its chief executive officer, the company announced on Monday.

Taylor (pictured) had been acting CEO since August of last year, following the exit of longstanding company head Mike Parsell.

“The board has been particularly impressed by the fresh perspectives and decisive action that have been evident since Phil was appointed as acting CEO, and we are excited by the potential we see for Phil to unlock new opportunities and new streams of value for the group,” said Emma Hill, the retailer’s chair.

Since Taylor’s promotion, the company has started a program to grow sales in the U.S., shaking up the regional leadership team and introducing the role of North America president. It also appointed a new head for its recently launched Emma & Roe brand.

Taylor joined Michael Hill in 1987 and became chief financial officer in 2003. His base salary as CEO will be $526,973 (AUD 694,400) plus performance-related cash and share bonuses, Michael Hill said.
