Alrosa’s sales rose to almost $258 million in August, but the miner said the month was seasonally quiet.

Rough-diamond revenue increased 5% to $255.7 million, while sales of polished stood at $1.9 million versus the $6.3 million the company reported a year ago. Total diamond sales increased 3%, based on rough and polished figures Alrosa reported for August last year. August sales this year were 12% lower than the previous month.

“August is [a] traditionally low season for trading,” Alrosa vice president Yury Okoyomov said in a statement Thursday. “This year was no exception, although sales volumes in August were slightly higher than a year earlier.”

In the first eight months, sales amounted to $3.05 billion, implying a 3.6% drop compared with figures the miner published last year. Rough sales declined 3.5% to $2.98 billion and polished sales fell 9% to $64.2 million.
