RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has unearthed a 327-carat rough diamond
from its Karowe mine in Botswana.
The high-color white diamond is the eighth over 100 carats that Lucara has found this year, and the ninth largest in its history, it said
last week.
Earlier this month, the miner recovered a 472-carat “top light
brown” diamond. Lucara, known for producing large stones from Karowe, sold its
biggest find, the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona, to Graff Diamonds for $53 million
in 2017. The company sold the 813-carat Constellation in 2016 for a record
$63.1 million.
The miner will sell the 327-carat and 472-carat diamonds at
an exceptional-stone tender in June, along with other special-size stones the
company has recovered since the start of the year.
Lucara’s sales of exceptional stones, excluding the Lesedi La Rona and the Constellation, fell 39% in 2017, according to Rapaport calculations.
