RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has appointed Peter Meeus as chairman of its World Diamond Mark (WDM) program.

Meeus — who will take over from Alex Popov — was president of the Dubai Diamond Exchange from 2009 until earlier this year, and manager of what is now the Antwerp World Diamond Centre from 1999 to 2006. He is also a special adviser to the Central African Republic’s president and ministry of mines, helping it comply with the Kimberley Process.

“Peter has enormous experience in the diamond sector and is known throughout the global diamond trade,” WFDB president Ernie Blom said last week. “I am sure he will take the WDM on to the next level.”

The WFDB created the WDM in 2012 as a global marketing campaign for the diamond industry, to promote trust and boost diamond sales.

“The World Diamond Mark aims to build trust in the jewelry shop and, as a result, support demand for diamonds,” said Meeus. “Through education and digital marketing, the WDM will provide retailers with the tools to showcase their integrity and create a consumer confidence program that will strengthen public trust in diamonds.”
