RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is offering $2 million in scholarships for 2019 to established and aspiring professionals.

The grants are available to students interested in registering for the institute’s gemology and jewelry manufacturing-arts programs, distance-education courses and lab classes. Successful applicants will be able to use the scholarships at the GIA’s schools in Bangkok, California, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York, Surat and Taiwan.

“With changing consumer trends and technological advancements in the industry, it is now more important than ever to have professional qualifications,” Duncan Pay, the GIA’s vice president and chief academic officer, said Monday. “These scholarships help people follow their dreams and pursue their passion in gems and jewelry.”

The GIA will accept applications for the scholarships through September 30. The money is from the GIA Endowment Fund, as well as private donors.
