GJEPC, DDC to Hold India Diamond Week in New York

Press Release: The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) of New York will present India Diamond Week at the DDC from August 11 to 14, 2014. Around 100 diamantaires from DDC and GJEPC are expected to participate in the meet.

A GJEPC and DDC joint initiative, India Diamond Week will provide a platform for the India's diamantaires in the U.S. to fortify the business relationship at one of the largest buying hub of diamonds. This is one place where the world’s largest diamond manufacturing hub will meet the biggest diamond buying hub. This meet will see networking between major Diamond wholesalers / manufacturers from New York and India; diamond dealers who are the members of DDC and trade diamonds with New York and other states.

On this occasion, Vipul Shah, the chairman of the GJEPC said, “The gem and jewelry industry strongly believes that the U.S. will continue to be a strong global trading partner as it has already shown early signs of positive economic growth. GJEPC in its effort to promote the Indian gems and jewelry industry is continuously looking for opportunities to create a distinctive platform and has collaborated with the Diamond Dealers Club to organize a unique and first time ever India Diamond Week (Buyer Seller Meet) in New York.”

This is the first time that such a diamond week is being held by Indian diamantaires in any part of the world. This will usher a new beginning for diamantaires and it is expected that more India diamond weeks may be organized in future with other diamond exchanges in the world. The general enthusiasm is immense in India and New York for the event and both DDC and GJEPC will mobilize efforts to generate its success.

India’s gem and jewelry industry is one of the important foundations of the country’s export-led growth. A major contributor to the creditable performance of the industry is the massive diamond manufacturing sector, which employs nearly one million people across the country. The industry has grown from its small origins in the 1950s and has established itself as the world’s largest manufacturing center of cut and polished diamonds for the last many years, contributing 85 percent in terms of volume and 92 percent in terms of pieces. The U.S. is one of the key destination for diamond exports.

The list of leading Indian manufacturers participating at this significant event will include D. Navinchandra Exports Pvt.Ltd., J. B. Brothers, Kama Schacther, Kiran Gems, H. K Designs, Rosy Blue, Mohit Diamonds, Interjewels and M. Tarun among others from India.
