Rapaport Fair Trade Conference
@ BASELWORLD 2009
The Rapaport Fair Trade Conference at BASELWORLD 2009 attracted a number of important industry leaders who discussed the opportunity that Fair Trade Jewelry offers the jewelry industry and the artisanal mining sector. Key industry stakeholders offered information about current fair trade jewelry initiatives, discussed about what is and what is not fair trade jewelry and provided opportunities for the sourcing and marketing Fair Trade jewelry.

There was consensus that the development of Fair Trade Jewelry is moving beyond the discussion stage with increasing consumer awareness and demand for  socially responsible products.

The increasing role of fair trade in sustainable development is uniting government, NGO’s and  private sector efforts. Development initiatives on the ground by Oro Verde and others are making a difference and there is increasing interest by leading brands to market the social benefits of such programs to consumers.
