World Diamond Council
Amid growing concern over human rights violations and atrocities committed against innocent victims in diamond producing countries of war-torn northern Africa, the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association passed a resolution at their Antwerp meeting in July 2000, creating the World Diamond Council.

The Association for Responsible Mining (ARM)
The Association for Responsible Mining, ARM, is an independent, global-scale effort, and pioneer initiative, created as an international and multi-institutional organization to bring credibility, transparency and legitimacy to the development of a framework for responsible artisanal and small-scale mining.

Communities and Small-Scale Mining (CASM)
CASM was launched in response to international recognition of the need for an integrated approach to address the challenges facing ASM communities and for improved coordination between institutions funding and executing assistance. CASM began as a multi-donor networking and coordination facility that would engage with practicing miners, their associations and communities, governments and non-governmental organizations, and development assistance agencies. Their mission is: To reduce poverty by supporting integrated sustainable development of communities affected by or involved in artisanal and small-scale mining in developing countries.

Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices
The council’s objective is to promote responsible ethical, social and environmental practices throughout the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain, from mine to retail.

Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO)
Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) is part of a worldwide network of Fair Trade organizations actively involved in supporting producers, awareness raising and campaigning for changes in the rules and practices of conventional international trade.

The Integrated Diamond Management & Policy (IDMP) Program
Integrated Diamond Management and Policy (IDMP) Program, in partnership with the PDA and the Ministries of Mineral Resources and Trade & Industry, trains diggers in cooperative management, new mining technologies, and diamond valuation as well as facilitating access to finance and better prices for mining cooperatives that agree to mine ethically, to incorporate environmental sustainability, and to track production from Earth to Export.

Madison Dialogue
Participants in the Madison Dialogue are working on a number of initiatives to promote sustainable development, best practice, and certification or assurance in the sector. These include the Kimberly Process, the Diamond Development Initiative, the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), and efforts to certify fair-trade gold, diamonds and other minerals.


International Federation for Alternative Trade (IFAT)
global network of Fair Trade Organizations. Their mission is to improve the livelihoods and well being of disadvantaged producers by linking and promoting Fair Trade Organizations, and speaking out for greater justice in world trade.

Cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa (COFTA)
is a network of Fair Trade producer Organizations in Africa involved and working with disadvantaged grass root producers to eliminate poverty through Fair Trade. COFTA is also a forum that offers regional opportunities to members to pursue common fair trade goals and aspirations, and an institutional regional platform for International Federation for Alternative Trade Network/International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) for Africa members.

Hoover & Strong
As a refiner and a manufacturer, Hoover & Strong is able to create most of their jewelry products or EcoJewelry™, from the world's supply of already mined precious metals. Currently, 80% of Hoover & Strong's gold comes from its recycling process, which means 2,000,000 tons of waste is eliminated every year by NOT using newly mined gold. It is their goal to use 100% recycled gold for all of their 50,000 products by the close of 2007.

April Doubleday
April uses recycled wood from musical instruments in her jewelry design, as ebony and rosewood are precious woods today.
