JVC Names Gardner CEO, President

(Rapaport...August 5, 2005) The board of directors of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) named Cecilia L. Gardner as JVC's president and CEO. Gardner will continue as general counsel. The board said that Gardner's appointment reflects her numerous contributions to both the JVC and to the jewelry industry.

Laurence R. Grunstein, chairman of JVC’s board of directors, said that "since Cecilia joined JVC in 1998, she has enhanced the association’s role as the legal compliance expert and leader for the jewelry industry."

Retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors "rely" upon JVC for legal guidance, said Grunstein who is president of Citizen Watch Co. of America Inc.

Gardner has been especially active throughout all phases of the new FinCEN anti-money laundering guides, which are to begin in January as part of the U.S. Patriot Act to combat terrorism and crime.

"Cecilia used her knowledge and experience to develop JVC’s U.S. Patriot Act Compliance Kit (PACK) for jewelry businesses that have to comply with recent AML regulations," Grunstein said.

Gardner accepted the new title graciously, and said that she looks "forward to continuing to lead JVC in its mission to maintain the jewelry industry’s highest ethical standards."

The JVC is a not-for-profit legal trade association founded in 1917. JVC offers dispute mediation and arbitration services for trade and consumers, compliance monitoring, and precious metals testing, among many other services.
