RAPAPORT...  The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) is presenting “What the IRS Expects When Examining Your Anti-Money Laundering Program" at the upcoming JA New York Winter Show.

In JVC's newest seminar specific to this topic, IRS agent F. Kim Buggs, the seminar’s keynote speaker, will outline plans for government examinations of jewelry anti-money laundering programs. Buggs will also discuss how such examinations will be conducted, what criteria the IRS will use to conduct examinations, and how to prepare for the IRS. 

Cecilia Gardner, JVC’s president, CEO and general counsel will moderate the session.

Attendance at the seminar will qualify as part of a jeweler's anti-money laundering training program -- a required under the rules.

JVC hosts the seminar on January 22, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., meeting room 1E02, Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. Attendance is free and registration is not required, although early arrival is recommended.

Gardner said, “JVC has been very proactive in communicating important anti-money laundering issues pertaining to the manufacture, sale and advertising of fine jewelry to the jewelry industry.  The association’s newest seminar was developed to keep jewelers who are required to develop and test their anti-money laundering programs up-to-date about how the IRS will conduct their examinations."
