RAPAPORT... A suspect in the Antwerp ABN AMRO diamond heist has been arrested in Germany, according to authorities. On or about March 2, 2007 a well-known customer of ABN AMRO in Antwerp is suspected of taking some $28 million in goods from the bank's vault.

The Associated Press listed Israel citizen Eliser Mishali as the man arrested in Frankfurt several days ago as he attempted to leave Germany. Authorities believe the robber had an accomplice. The missing diamonds have not yet been located. Belgium is reported to be seeking Mishali's extradition.

The suspected robber had frequented ABN AMRO bank on almost a daily basis for a year before the diamonds were stolen in early March. Police concluded the man was using a false identity and stolen passport. ABN AMRO discovered the missing diamonds on March 5, 2007, and police notified the public of the robbery the following week to help collect clues.
