RAPAPORT... Total production at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories increased 21.7 percent to 3.312 million carats in the second quarter of 2007, reported the mine’s holding company Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. Diamond production to mid year rose 30 percent to 5.876 million carats.

Diavik attributed the rise in production to a higher grade ore at the A154 South pipe and excellent plant performance through the period.

The Diavik mine is 60 percent owned by Rio Tinto and 40 percent by Aber Diamond Corporation. Rio Tinto reported that its share of production rose 21 percent to a record 1.98 million carats in the second quarter period.
