RAPAPORT... Dallas-based luxury retailer, Neiman Marcus, reported a 4.9 percent increase in revenues to $723 million during the five weeks ending December 29, 2008. Comparable store sales grew 2.9 percent.
Revenues at the company’s specialty retail stores, including Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman, increased 1.8 percent. The strongest sales categories were in women’s shoes, designer handbags, beauty and men’s shoes and sportswear, the company said.
Nieman Marcus listed jewelry as one of its stronger performers in its direct marketing segment which conducts online and catalog campaigns for its brand names. Other growth categories in this segment were designer shoes and handbags, women’s contemporary sportswear, and men’ s furnishings.
Comparable revenues at Nieman Marcus Direct increased 8.4 percent during the December period.
