RAPAPORT...  Mother's Day in the United States is less than one month away, but Shop.com asked mothers ahead of time what gift(s) might brighten their day come May 11, 2008.

In the survey released today, 2 percent of mothers picked diamonds. Fifty-eight percent of moms named a tech gadget they would like, with flat screen televisions topping out at No.1. Other tech gadgets included a digital camera, computer, cell phone, GPS unit, iPod or mp3 player.

Other "wished for gifts" included a spa day, gourmet cooking classes, craft lessons, a new car, and a night at the opera.

“We know moms and every mom is unique,” said Mondy Beller of Shop.com. “Some moms really enjoy tech-related gifts, while the tried-and-true flowers and candy still work their charm for others."
