RAPAPORT... The Diamond Trading Company (DTC) made the long awaited confirmation of its sightholder list this week, as sight recipients received their first goods in the new three-year contract period.
The marketing arm of De Beers notified successful sightholders of their status in December, but delayed publication of the full list until a third party verification process had been completed.
Initially, six new companies were given sightholder status but DTC confirmed with Rapaport News that during the third party verification process, one of the new companies was dropped, and a company which had previously lost its sight was added to the list in its place. According to Rapaport records, India-based A.S. Export was the company that lost its sight but as of press time, the replacement was not confirmed.
In December 2007, DTC chose 79 global sightholders, of which 75 were to participate in sights held in either London or South Africa. The Botswana directory includes 16 companies, all of which are subsidiaries of larger sightholders, while of Namibia’s 11 sightholders, seven hold additional sights. Three Canada sightholders were named, which will receive goods from a separate sight held in London.
In the previous DTC contract period, there were 93 sightholders, indicating that 18 companies lost out this year, and five were added.
The new sightholders are Sahar Atid Diamonds and Yossie Glick Diamonds from Israel, Dharmanandan Diamonds and Shairu Gems from India, and Arslanian Cutting Works from Canada.
The global network includes 30 sightholders with headquarters in India, 15 in Belgium, 11 in Israel, eight in the United States, four in South Africa, three in Hong Kong, two in Namibia, and one each in Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.
Rand Precision Cut Diamonds, through its subsidiaries, was the only company to receive sights across the board in London, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Canada.
Two companies – Diacor International (Steinmetz Group) and Lazare Kaplan International – received four sight positions each, in London and each of the southern African sights, while AMC NV, D.D. Manufacturing, Julius Klein International, and SAFDICO each received three sights. Two Rosy Blue companies received London sights and a Rosy Blue subsidiary became a South Africa sightholder.
The following chart lists each sightholder with the locations of the sights they received. The subsequent tables present the South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Canada and Industrial sightholders together with their respective parent companies.
