RAPAPORT... Pakistan has abolished customs duties paid on diamonds and other jewelry related commodities imported to the country.

The Federal Board of Revenue said it made the necessary changes to the legislation and that zero customs duties would be charged on diamonds, precious stones, silver, gold, platinum and palladium.

Pakistan has stepped up efforts to boost its jewelry industry and is planning to host the Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Expo in Houston, Texas, in October.

Earlier this week the U.S. embassy in Islamabad approved visas for 45 exhibitors taking part in the event.
