RAPAPORT...  INTERPOL reported the arrest of two  suspected members of the so-called Pink Panther gang of jewel thieves in Monaco after one suspect was taken to a hospital following a car crash.

Dusko Poznan, 30, from Bosnia-Herzegovina, and an unnamed 27-year-old Serbian were arrested after local police recognized their photos from INTERPOL. The agency currently links Poznan in connection with Ljepoja Milan, 32; Jovanovic Milos, 30; and Lazarevic Mladen, 28, all of whom are still at large and come from Serbia. pink panther dusko poznan

The Pink Panther gang is believed to have stolen some $135 million worth of jewelry from shops across 20 countries. The group earned its name in 2004 for hiding a diamond ring in a jar of face cream -- which had been a ploy used in one of the Pink Panther films starring the late Peter Sellers.

Police identified Poznan (pictured) from a photo circulated by INTERPOL when they went to the hospital to question the man following the accident in Monaco.

“This result is a perfect demonstration of what can be achieved through member countries sharing identifying information such as photographs, fingerprints and DNA via INTERPOL,” said group secretary general Ronald K. Noble.

“But even more importantly, NCB Monaco ensured that police on the street were informed which in turn enabled this officer to do his job, and his vigilance in particular should be commended,” said  Noble.

Both men are wanted by Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the United Arab Emirates for a range of offenses including armed robbery.

Approximately six members of the gang  have been tried and are already serving time in prison for multi-million dollar diamond jewelry robberies in Milan, London, and Tokyo.
