RAPAPORT...
Press Release - Antwerp, May 28, 2009: The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) issued a statement today mourning the tragic death of Louis Selekane, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator, who was killed earlier this week in a car accident in his native South Africa. The South African Press Assocation (SAPA) reported that Selekane's car was crossing an intersection when it was hit by another vehicle that failed to heed a stop sign. Avi Paz, WFDB president, and Ernest Blom, WFDB vice president and chairman of the Diamond Dealers Club and the Diamond Council of South Africa, extended their condolences to the family and sent wishes for a speedy recovery to Ms. Selekane, who was injured in the accident.
"Louis was a true friend. He was energetic, hands-on and passionate about the diamond industry and trade. He was closely involved in the international efforts in establishing the Kimberley Certification Process and instrumental in the installation of the Kimberly Process in South Africa," Blom noted. "Louis will be sorely missed by all of us who knew, cherished and loved him. We will remember him fondly." "Louis Selekane was a fresh breath of air in the diamond industry and trade. His contribution was great and he will [be missed] by his many friends around the world," Paz said.
