GJEPC: The following letter was sent by Vasant Mehta, chairman of India's Gem & Jewellery Promotion Centre (GJEPC), to members of the trade.

Dear All:

I wish to clarify regarding a misquote in one of the newspaper here in India and on major websites about GJEPC pulling out of China and "calling back" all of the goods. This news item is totally incorrect and misleading. No one from the Council, including me, has ever made any such statement.

The GJEPC and its members respect the laws of all countries, including those of China, and do not support any illegal activities. We are aware of and acknowledge the help provided by the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) to GJEPC in the growth of the official trade in diamonds between India and China and will work with SDE to grow this business.

It is our request to all to carry this message forward, so as to avoid any misunderstanding.

Thanks and best wishes,

Vasant Mehta
Chairman, GJEPC
Mumbai, India
