RAPAPORT... Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, is bringing its Gemmology Foundation Lab Class to New York's Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). The two-day gem lab class will be presented by Gary Roskin from May 15 to May 16 to provide an introduction to practical gemology, a necessary component for the next step: Gem-A’s internationally acclaimed open distance learning Foundation in Gemmology.
The introductory course will consist of hands-on, practical instruction in gem identification using basic equipment. There are no prior requirements, but this class could also serve as a refresher course for those with some previous gemological education.
Roskin is an adjunct instructor of gemology at FIT and publishes the Roskin Gem News Report. FIT has been a Gem-A exam center since 2005 and recently expanded its practical gemology facilities.
Class fees for Gem-A registered students are approximately $459 (GBP 300) and $497 (GBP 325) for all nonstudents. Space is strictly limited, so register early by emailing paveet(at-sign)gem-a.com or call 44.0.20.7404.3334.
