Hong Kong's Precious Metal Jewelry Exports +36%

RAPAPORT... Hong Kong’s precious metal jewelry exports rose 36 percent year over year to $353 million in March, according to data published by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKDTC). This data was sourced from the Hong Kong Trade Statistics, Census & Statistics Department.

Of the country's exports, $83 million worth came from the domestic market, representing an increase of 17 percent over March 2009, while re-exports from other countries rose 27 percent year over year to $270 million. Hong Kong’s precious metal jewelry imports jumped 87 percent to $509 million in March 2010.

For the first quarter, Hong Kong’s precious metal jewelry exports grew by 29 percent year over year to $885 million. Domestic exports were up 34 percent to $195 million, while re-exports rose 27 percent to $690 million. Hong Kong’s precious metal jewelry imports increased 53 percent to $1.29 billion during the first quarter.
