ALROSA Diamond Sales +27% in 1Q

RAPAPORT... ALROSA reported that diamond revenue rose 27 percent year on year to $1.1 billion (RUB 34.5 ‎billion) in the first quarter of 2012 as prices strengthen and the volume of sales increased. ‎ALROSA’s total revenue increased 26 percent to $1.13 billion (RUB 37.2 billion) and its net profit ‎increased 8 percent to $386 million (RUB 12.69 billion) during the quarter.‎

The company reported that the volume of sales of gem-quality diamonds rose 2 percent to 6.1 ‎million carats with the average price on these goods jumping 24 percent year on year to $183.90 per carat. The ‎average price of its gem-quality sales increased by 5 percent compared to the fourth quarter. ‎Non-gem quality sales rose 10 percent year on year to 3.4 million carats with the average price ‎doubling to $8.80 per carat.  ‎

The total volume of sales increased 4 percent to 9.5 million carats, ALROSA’s production fell 19 ‎percent to 8.1 million carats. ‎
