ALROSA Pursues Angola Exploration Projects

RAPAPORT... ALROSA and Angola’s state diamond mining company, ENDIAMA, are examining possible joint venture projects. Fyodor Andreev, ALROSA’s president, visited Angola this week to meet with President José Eduardo dos Santos, along with the country's mining minister, Francisco Queiróz, and the management of ENDIAMA and Sociedade Mineira de Catoca.
ALROSA reported that the parties discussed the prospect of an exploration joint venture with ENDIAMA. “The geological material already produced by ALROSA’s specialists in Angola proves there is a high probability to discover new large primary diamond deposits in this country,” company spokespersons stated.
Andreev previously met with Antonio Sumbula, ENDIAMA’s chairman in Moscow to discuss a possible framework for cooperation in exploration. ALROSA’s geologists will soon conduct preliminary work to assess the most promising areas in terms of potential discovery of a primary diamond deposit.
ALROSA and ENDIAMA each own 32.8 percent of the Catoca mine in Angola.
