RAPAPORT... Press Release: Lazare Kaplan International Inc.  keeps giving back to the community with both their Lazare Ongoma Initiative  and their Hearts for Hope pendant. Marcee Feinberg, Lazare Kaplan’s vice president, presented a donation to The Five Rand Primary School during her visit to Namibia, Africa last week.

“We look to give a little something back to help with the challenges of life,” said  Feinberg. “Helping one another is so important.”  lazare kaplan

The Lazare Ongoma Initiative was created in 2012 to raise awareness for a number of important causes in Africa, one of which is to improve and enhance every child’s educational experience in Namibia – one of the world’s largest gem diamond producing nations. Ongoma, meaning “drum,” is an instrument that makes a sound which is an integral part of the Namibian cultural landscape. Lazare Kaplan and Ongoma is a collaboration to make music, to create noise, to beat that drum, to celebrate, and support the cause of education in Namibia.

Lazare Kaplan began the Lazare Ongoma Initiative in conjunction with their Lazare Diamond Incentive Program, which rewards Lazare diamond retailers and their sales associates who register sold Lazare diamonds. These rewards are matched by the company as a donation to the Five Rand Primary School in Okahandja, Namibia.

Lazare’s Hearts for Hope pendant was designed to celebrate Lazare Kaplan's  110th anniversary and also to add to its charitable donations. For every pendant sold during the Luxury/JCK shows, there was a $110 donation to the Jewelers for Children (JFC) foundation to create awareness and support multiple causes that help children around the world.  Additionally, for each pendant sold after the show, June 10 through December 31, 2013, Lazare Kaplan will donate $110 to Lazare’s Ongoma Initiative.

Feinberg added, “We, at Lazare Kaplan, thank everyone who helped contribute to the donations for JFC and our Ongoma Initiative. Children are our future and whatever we can do to make a difference in the life of even one child is worth it.”

Lazare Kaplan International Inc. sells its diamonds and jewelry products through a worldwide distribution network. The company is noted for its ideal cut diamonds, which it markets internationally under the brand name, Lazare Diamonds®. It has been an innovator in the diamond industry since its debut in 1903 and is a full supporter of ethical industry standards as a founding member of the UN Global Compact, an initiative supporting universal ethical, social, human rights and environmental principles.
