Press Release:  With 90 exhibitors in the Israel Diamond Pavilion and 30 more throughout the show, the Israeli diamond contingent to this year’s September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will be one of the largest, the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) reports.

To make it easier for buyers to access the goods they are seeking, this year IDI is introducing a computerized database of all the Israeli goods from the pavilion, by exhibitor. Located at the IDI image booth, the facility will enable visitors to specify the goods they want and the computer will point them to the right suppliers among the Israeli exhibitors in the pavilion and elsewhere in the show.

The Israel Diamond Pavilion will be located in Hall 7, 9 and 11 of the Asia World Expo. IDI’s image booth will be located at the heart of the pavilion. In addition to helping to guide buyers, the booth will provide information about the Israeli diamond industry and will register buyers for the IDI portal site.

The September Hong Kong show is a key event for the Israeli diamond industry, which sees Asian markets, led by Hong Kong, as one of its most important long-term growth area. Hong Kong is Israel’s second largest market for polished diamonds after the U.S., representing close to 30 percent of Israel’s total polished diamond exports.

The September Hong Kong fair is considered one of the top shows for reaching Asian markets, especially since it comes before the important buying seasons of Christmas, Diwali and the Chinese New Year. Due to limited exhibition space IDI was not able to meet the overwhelming demand by Israeli companies to participate in the September show, leaving a waiting list of 50 companies.

To maximize exposure at the show IDI will once again be sponsoring the show’s opening reception. Moreover, IDI is one of the founding honored partners of the JNA Awards, an event that celebrates excellence and achievement in the global jewelry industry, with an Asian focus. The awards will be distributed at a ceremony and gala dinner at The Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong on September 12.

IDI's chairman, Moti Ganz, said that IDI believes in the huge potential of Asian markets. “We see Asia, with Hong Kong as its gateway, as a vast and largely untapped market for diamonds. Although there is currently a certain slowdown in Asian markets, we are convinced they will bounce back and continue to expand. We have only begun to scratch the surface,” he said.

IDI's managing director, Eli Avidar, said that he was optimistic at the prospects for an active show. “Our experience at recent trade shows has proven that the Israeli industry has successfully adapted to changes in the market. Our exhibitors now specialize, bringing focused collections rather than a wide variety of goods. That’s why our pavilions are more like specialized boutiques than supermarkets. We feel that this is the right way to approach the market in today’s international climate,” Avidar stated.
