AngloGold CEO Takes Over as Executive Chairman

(Rapaport…December 11, 2000) AngloGold Chief Executive Officer Bobby Godsell has taken over the chairmanship of the gold mining company from Nicky Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer has held the post in a nonexecutive role as a representative of AngloGold’s biggest shareholder, AngloAmerican. Oppenheimer is also chairman of De Beers and deputy chairman of AngloAmerican.
Russel Edey, a nonexecutive director of AngloGold, has been elected deputy chairman.
Although the company’s executive committee oversees operations in South Africa, an executive director was not appointed. In the meantime, Godsell will be in charge of operational issues.
