Press Release: The Pantone Institute has named “Marsala” as its color of the year for 2015.  Pantone Color Institute stated, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while it’s grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty-yet-stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

But is Pantone Color Institute the fashion authority? Jewelry designer Steven Zale said the answer is: No!  Most people don’t realize that Crayola® is the color of inspiration and master authority.  Surprised?  Crayola® is one of the top 10 most recognized brands in the world and is transforming itself as the inspirational color authority. Crayola’s Fuzzy Wuzzy, Mahogany, Chestnut, are the hot exciting hues for 2015 not some boring institute color reference number of wine.  What happen to inspiration? High-level recap: people – of all ages and in many markets – are constructing their own identities more freely than ever. As a result, consumption patterns are no longer defined by traditional demographic segments such as age, gender, location, income, family status and more. Trends aren't really the point – inspiration is! Old status brands are more financial status icons.  The new trend is inspirational. I expect you will see a lot of use of Mozambique and rhodolite garnets, commercial qualities of rubies that will carry the hue, red topaz and some alexandrite.
